Call for Donations, Help |
Kelly Mills is putting together food / "goody" bags for the Miamians that made the bus trip out for Steve Smith's calling hours and funeral. There are about 40 people on the bus, and they're going to start loading at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning to return to Oxford.
There are three ways you can help:- Give time to help assemble/deliver the bags. This would be if you can help early on Saturday morning to assemble & deliver them to the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase.
- Bake/Buy stuff to put into the bags. Between 9-5:30 tomorrow, you can bring/send items to Kelly's office: 1724 Massachusetts Avenue, NW. If you want to take them to her house, contact her and you can make arrangements.
- Give money to help pay for it all. Go to PayPal. Send money to kmills@ncta.com. Any amount is appreciated! Any money left over will be donated to a memorial fund or to the cause of Steve's family's choice.
Kelly can be reached by email at kmills@ncta.com.
Let me know if you have any questions (don@miamialumdc.org), and thank you for your help... |

Calling Hours for Local Miamian |
As you all know by now, last weekend we lost three students in a tragic off-campus fire on the corner of N. Main Street and Withrow in Oxford. One of them is Stephen J. Smith of Bethesda, MD, a senior majoring in marketing who was scheduled to graduate in May.
The calling hours for Steve will be held today, Thursday, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Gawlers Funeral Home on 5130 Wisconsin Avenue NW in DC.
The funeral mass will be held at the Little Flower Catholic Church, 5607 Massachusetts Ave. in Bethesda, at noon on Friday, April 15.
According to Dr. Denny Roberts in Oxford, Miami provided a bus for the Rugby Team (of which Steve was a prominent part) and for the surviving residents of Steve's house. They are staying at the National 4-H Center (7100 Connecticut Ave. in Chevy Chase).
Steve was the son of Frederick and Edye Smith. If you would like to send a card or flowers, please contact Don at don@miamialumdc.org. |
